Submit Your Work

 

The submission deadline for our Spring 2026 Journal is May 3 for fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and art. Blog submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis.​

Westwind accepts submissions of original, unpublished literary and visual artwork in any genre. We publish digital journals in Fall, Winter, and Spring.

If your submission falls outside the submission period, it will roll over into the following reading period.

No AI Policy​

​

Westwind reserves the right to refuse to publish any work of art that we suspect may be AI-generated. In order to preserve the integrity of work featured in our journals, all artists are required to confirm that they have not used generative AI tools in the creation of their work.

Submission Guidelines

​

Format the subject line of your email as [Category] Submission – [Author Name]. 

 

(For example: “Fiction Submission – Jo Bruin”​)

Submit all written pieces as a “.doc” or “.docx” file AND “.pdf” file. Submit art in whatever file is most appropriate, ".JPEG" and ".PNG" preferred. Submit all images at the highest quality possible. 

 

Please include in your submission:

1. Your name

2. Contact email

3. UCLA affiliation OR affiliation to the greater Los Angeles community

4. 2-5 sentence author bio (in 3rd person)

5. How you found out about Westwind

6. Trigger or content warnings related to your submission (if any)

 

Specific Genre Requirements

 

FICTION

Please send up to 3 individual works (up to 3500 words collectively). Excerpts from longer prose pieces are acceptable if self-contained. Send submissions and/or questions to: westwindfiction@gmail.com.

 

CREATIVE NONFICTION

Please send up to 3 individual works (up to 3500 words collectively). Excerpts from longer prose pieces are acceptable if self-contained. Prose works from all genres or non-genres are acceptable. Send submissions and/or questions to: westwindcnf@gmail.com.

POETRY

Please send up to 3 individual poems (up to 750 words collectively). All forms and styles, including experimental genres, are acceptable! Send submissions and/or questions to westwindpoetry@gmail.com.

 

ART

Please send up to 5 digital images of artwork of any kind, in any medium, and include a medium/ materials/ process statement for each piece. Alternative, non-traditional, and mixed-media artwork is acceptable and encouraged. Musical compositions and recordings may be sent as a soundcloud or mp3 link. BLOG

Please send up to 3 pieces of any article genre (cultural criticism, longform review, etc.). While we accept submissions of any length, most of our published pieces run between 1000-1500 words. Send submissions and/or questions to: blog.westwind@gmail.com.
